MAN Cup Drags

The MAN Cup Drags are the BIGGEST drag racing series for Motorcycles… So of course Rev Jim and Racing for Orphans had to show up and see our friends and to spread the word on what Racing For Orphans does to help kids and the community.

Rev. Jim and I went up to the MAN Drags in Osvaldo Georgia on November 22, 23 and 24 2019,

We had a great time and got the word out to thousands of racers and fans for Racing for Orphans.

Friday was set up day and we were pitted next to Dave Skaggs of D & G Chassis, It is funny when you drive hundreds of miles and the then you are right next to or across a guy you live two miles from!

We got or tent set up with the new Bonneville bike “The Spirit of Olean” and “Orange Bike” and made our present known! The tent was set up with the banners plus the bikes do make a great presentation for Racing For Orphans. Heck, even the Red and Blue chairs look good and were used thru out the weekend and with great conversations all weekend from racers and spectators.

We did get to meet with Scott Guthrie from Tallahassee. Scott is and interesting guy and in a small group of “one” that has a 200 MPH Red Hat in Motorcycles and Automobiles. That means, for you folks at home, he has gone over 200 MPH at Bonneville in an Automobile and over 200 MPH on a motorcycle. You get Red hat for going over 200 MPH, called the Red Hat Club. It is a rare thing and highly prized by all racers. He is in a small class of one! Pleased to meet you Scott Guthrie!

So Jim and I standing around and then two guys come up start looking at the Bonneville 2020 bike and really start asking serious questions about both bikes, their years, frames, air boxes, motor details, not your usual “how fast it is questions”. Come to find out these two guys know a lot about the SOHC Honda’s, Billy Denby built Dick Mann’s Daytona winning Honda 750 in 1971 the first big race the bike won. He and his friend Mike Free are both Honda racing guys from the era and were fountain of knowledge on these bikes and were willing to share there knowledge with us. So Racing for Orphans got to talk with these two gentlemen and tell our story too!

We did visit with Larry McBride AKA Spiderman, Earlier in the day he ran a 5.60 at 264 MPH so he was mobbed with people. Since we do know Larry we went to him and said hello, while the adoring mobs gathered around wished him congratulations. After all a world record is kind of big deal you know. Take look at some the video and will share it with you, people we mobbing him and he was always gracious … We all had to leave on Saturday evening so we did not get our follow usual sit down and have a soda time with Larry.

All in all the MAN Motorcycle Drags at the Southern Georgia Speedway 2019 was a great success.
